Welcome to Msunduzi

South Africa's burgeoning center

Msunduzi is a municipality in South Africa. Home to the burgeoning city of Pietermaritzburg in the Kwa-Zulu Natal province. A former outpost from colonial times, a diverse group of 600,000 people now live in Msunduzi. Pietermaritzburg is dubbed by local officials as "City of Choice" in Msunduzi because of its approximity to the Durban, South Africa port; it its a brief 60 minute flight from Pietermaritzburg to Tambo International (Johannesberg, South Africa); and the economy is

growing at above average rates. Msunduzi has been studied by the United Nations for its efforts at reducing the impact of HIV/AIDS. Pietermaritzburg has had success through a citywide partnership between local government officials, businesses, and citizens. In addition, Msunduzi won an award from Harvard University's Government Innovators Network for its Pietermaritzburg-Msunduzi Inter-sectoral Anti-Crime Network. This citywide program in Msunduzi was is an umbrella body established to co-ordinate anti-crime activities in the region.

One of the best parts of Msunduzi, but also one of the most complicated is the Msunduzi River. The river is known by everyone in the region and could one day be an important natural resource for Msundizi and South Africa. However, today the Msunduzi River is plagued by pollution, mostly notably eColi. Read more about the Msunduzi River in the Msunduzi region of South Africa.
